2023 was the year of learning to simplify and slow my life down in different ways. There is still SO MUCH growth that needs to happen in this area. But it’s about progress, right?

These are 3 things I began doing in 2023 that have helped me have simpler, slower, and ultimately more treasured moments.

  1. Simplify my home. More than ever before, I started decluttering my home. The less stuff I have, the less stuff I have to manage. I also started new habits and rhythms that help me simplify different processes of taking care of my home. The goal is to have a home that requires less managing so that more time can be spent with the people I love.

  2. Schedule family time. We used to not have to “schedule” time at home to be together with family. But it has seemed that when we are intentional about scheduling time together, it helps us prioritize family time.

  3. Decrease time wearing my smart watch. I’ve learned that the less notifications I get, the more present I am with my kids during the day. I still wear it on the rare occasion that I exercise or when I am away from the kids for an extended period of time. While I know that I could just turn notifications off, its better for me to not have even the ability to check notifications. This may change over time, but for now this helps me.

These are things that have helped ME. I struggle to be fully present with my family when my mind seems to race all day. These things help me slow my brain and take in the moments I have with my kids and husband. Everyone’s brains work differently. You might not struggle to focus and take in the sweet moments like I do. But if your brain is like mine, these are some simple areas that might help you decrease mental loads so that you can increase sweet moments with your loved ones.
